Police say one more person involved in Tuesday’s clashes at Agbogbloshie has been confirmed dead at the police hospital.He was one of two people seriously injured in the violent clashes in the area.This brings to three the number of young men who died in the disturbances.The deceased are believed to be mercenaries brought in from the north by a rival faction to shore up their position in the battle for turf.Confirming the third casualty to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, police PRO, DSP Kwesi Ofori, said the police were checking medical facilities in the capital to find out if any injured persons as a result of the fighting are receiving treatment somewhere.He said a number people were picked up by the police who had sustained some injuries and sent to the police hospital for treatment after which they would help the police in their investigations. But unfortunately one of them died.DSP Kwesi Ofori said but for the timely intervention of the police, the rate of casualty would have been catastrophic.He said a police patrol team, augmented by an armoured squadron, had been detailed to the Konkomba market - which has gained notoriety for violent clashes with political, ethnic and chieftaincy undertones - to maintain the peace there.Joy FM’s Sammy Darko who frequently reports from the Agbogbloshie market reported that the latest killings were precipitated by a battle for space.A particular space at the Konkomba market that was hitherto occupied by people suspected to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party fell to their NDC counterparts following the change in political fortunes in the wake of the 2008 elections.Unhappy about their loss, the supposed NPP supporters imported the deceased persons to help them reclaim the ‘land of their own.’But they were not lucky, and their talismans were of no use, as they succumbed to the savagery of fellow men.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
