Students at the Kotobabi Cluster Schools in Accra miss valuable class hours daily anytime they want to attend to nature’s call.
This is because about 500 pupils of the school spend three hours daily outside the school just to access a public toilet because of the unavailabilty of toilet facilities within the school.
The compound houses four schools – Unity Junior High, Wilberforce Primary, Kanda 1 and Ayabeng Primary.
The lack of a toilet facility at the school is said to be disrupting teaching and learning.
Some of the pupils who spoke to Joy News said they have to cross the street and use part of their feeding fee to pay for using the public toilet.
The students who say they have to cross about three roads before they get to the public toilet fear they might be knocked down by a moving vehicle.
They are pleading with the school authorities to release to them one of the toilet facilities used by the teachers or construct a separate one for them.
Meanwhile, Head of Drains and Maintenance at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Graham Sarbah told Joy News in an interview that the rehabilitation of toilets for public schools in the metropolis has begun.
He said the students at the school should probably expect a toilet facility by the end of the year.
He cautioned authorities at the school to ensure that the new toilet facilities will be well taken care of and maintained.
