The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says Ghana’s history, when written, will not be complete without the inclusion of the immense contributions made by the late Mrs. Theodosia Okoh.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, Mrs. Okoh’s contributions to the development of sports in Ghana, especially the game of hockey, in addition to the fact that she designed the flag of Ghana will forever be remembered by the people of Ghana.
Nana Akufo-Addo made this known when he called on the family of Mrs. Okoh, on Thursday, May 14, 2015, to express his deepest condolences on her passing.
The NPP presidential candidate explained to the family that “my schedules haven't allowed me to be here at the time I was supposed to have come to mourn with you. Forgive me for that."
"The contributions made by our mother to the development of our country have been immense. She belongs to the independence generation, those involved in the struggle for Ghana’s freedom.
"Her husband, the late Enoch Okoh, was a senior civil servant during the era of the first leader of our country, Kwame Nkrumah. Indeed, I know members of this family well, including her son, Mr. Kwame Okoh, whom I have worked with before,” Akufo-Addo said.
Nana Akufo-Addo assured the family that though he will not be able to make it to the funeral, which is scheduled to take place on May 28th, 2015, he will make sure that he is adequately represented at the ceremony.
Mr. Kwasi Okoh, eldest son of Mrs Okoh, thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for his visit, adding that “you have honoured us by your presence here. Our mother will certainly be very happy with your presence in her house.”
Nana Akufo-Addo also signed the book of condolence opened in honour of Mrs. Okoh.
The NPP flagbearer was accompanied by Greater Accra Regional NPP Chairman, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey; Northern Regional NPP Chairman, Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu; Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Mrs Ursula Ekufful; Greater Accra Regional NPP Secretary, Mr. Adjei Sowah; Greater Accra Regional NPP Women’s Organiser, Joyce Zampare; La Dadekotopon Constituency Chairman, Lawyer Frank Davies; parliamentary aspirants for the Korle Klottey constituency, Lawyer Philip Addison and Mr. Adjei Tawiah; and Frema Opare Osei, a leading member of the NPP and a former Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare.
