Government is to convene an emergency meeting with workers of the Agricultural Development bank (ADB) today to avert an industrial action.
Yesterday, the workers announced their intention to boycott work over government’s failure to remove the board and Managing Director of the Bank.
The announcement was contained in a letter sent to the Executive Head of HR of the bank and signed by the Deputy General Secretary of Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers Union (UNICOF), John Amegashie.
According to UNICOF, it has been forced to take the action because government has failed to act on its request to let the bank’s MD Stephen Kpordzih and the board step aside for an independent audit.
“But what we heard is that the Bank of Ghana auditors are around and the managing director is directing as to what to do. We thought he authorities are not fair to us,” Mr. Amegashie told Joy Business.
“As at yesterday when we served the notice, the sector minister had invited us so we are meeting with the Labour Minister this evening at 4pm.”
He said whether the workers would embark on an industrial action or not would depend on today’s meeting with the minister.
