Some residents in the Ashanti Region have charged President Mills to revamp the shoe and jute factories in the region to create more jobs for the unemployed youth.
Speaking to Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey the residents said the two factories have been left to die a natural death and several promises by past presidents to revamp them have largely been unfulfilled.
Their request follows the beginning of a three day official visit to the region by President John Mills on Thursday.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs in Manhyia shortly after his arrival, the president assured the chiefs and people of the region of government’s unrelenting efforts to improve upon the economy.
He said money will soon be felt in the pocket of the ordinary Ghanaian, in line with his campaign promise.
President Mills charged the youth in the area to emulate the achievements of the Black Satellites by working hard to live an indelible mark in every field of endeavour.
The Asante Hene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II implored the President to be courageous and wary of sycophants.
President Mills proceeded to the Kumasi Central Mosque to pay courtesy call on the Moslem leaders in the Municipality.
