Junior doctors at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital have declared a strike in protest over poor conditions of service.

A letter addressed to the CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and signed by one Dr. Oswald Tetteh said the students are saddened by the wanton disregard of their welfare.

According to the doctors, almost one month after being employed they have not been given any appointment letters, neither have they undergone any medical examination nor received laboratory materials to facilitate their work.

The doctors claim they have also not received their identification cards. Worst still the doctors are kicking against the monthly 200 cedis  feeding fees given them and they want a raise.

Oswald Tetteh later told Joy News' Dzifa Bampoh they cannot live under these conditions and have decided to suspend their services until their demands are met.

He said several meetings with management of the hospital to address these grievances have not been futile.

The 143 doctors want the management to deal with the issues as quickly as possible so that they can return to work.

"We are willing to continue work at Korle bu as soon as they resolve our grievances," he said, adding if Korle bu fails to address our concerns we will meet to decide on what to do.
