A 46-year-old civil servant in Kumasi is threatening legal action against former President Rawlings for describing members of President Mills’ government as “greedy bastards.”
Kingsley Emmanuel Sey has given the former President two weeks to explain what he meant.
In an interview with Nhyira News, Mr. Sey said the ex-President’s statement is an indictment on the nation’s integrity.
“JJ Rawlings, the past president, should come out and show [those] greedy and bastard people. If not we are going to take action against him to come out and show,” he said in an obviously angry tone.
Mr Sey said the former president’s words, which the civil servant suggests were unsavory, were directed to the entire country and not only members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The civil servant is urging former president Rawlings to retract his statement and apologise to Ghanaians.
His comments follow a statement in which Mr Rawlings, while addressing supporters of the ruling party, alleged President Mills is appointing “bastards” into positions of state.
Although the issue was thought to have died a natural death, the latest reaction might keep it a while longer.
