The 2015 Black Entertainment Television Awards (BET) Awards Best International Act: Africa winner, Stonebwoy has dedicated his award to victims of the June 3 Accra floods and fire disaster.
The Ghanaian dancehall artiste, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, was adjudged winner of the award at a pre-recorded event Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
He beat Ghanaian counterpart Sarkodie and some of Africa’s biggest acts to win the award. The other nominees in that category were AKA (South Africa), Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), Sauti Sol (Kenya), The Soil (South Africa), Wizkid (Nigeria) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria).
In his first remarks after receiving the award, the ‘Baafira’ hit singer said the award is dedicated to Ghanaians, his fans and victims of the twin disasters.
“GHANA WON!! Dedicate This To The Whole Ghana My Fans (BhimNation) Not Forgetting The Flood Victims.. Thank You God!!” Stonebwoy tweeted.
About 150 died after floods that resulted from torrential rains on Wednesday June 3 ravaged large parts of Accra.
A fire at the Goil filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle left more than a hundred dead.
Stonbwoy’s awards galore
The stars of Stonebwoy are truly shining bright this year and the BET Award is an impressive reward to his relentless dedication to his craft.
It is six months into the year and the dancehall artiste has bagged four awards, three of them being local awards – Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year.
With the BET Award out of the way, the Ashaiman-based musician will hope to add more international awards to his trophy shelf.
He has been nominated for the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA), and the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).
