The people of Nkroful in the Nzema East District of the Western Region are angry over what they described as frequent military police patrols in the town. They claim that at least in every two days, these security personnel visit the town and fire shots indiscriminately into the air.In one of such operations, an unidentified policeman shot at Daniel Cudjoe, 28, a farmer in the head at 11 am on Friday, April 13.The military police patrols at Nkroful became a routine after they had been engaged in an operation to flush out “galamsey” operators in the Nzema District. In an interview, the acting Tufuhene of Nkroful, Nana Baidoo said that the people were tired of the military police visits and intimidations which created uneasiness and anxiety among the people. He said that but for his intervention, the people would have retailed when Cudjoe was injured by the soldiers.Nana Baidoo narrated how some masons working near Cudjoe’s farm took him to a clinic at Nkroful and the police, military team chased up and attempted to arrest Cudjoe.“But I refused and told them that Cudjoe should be allowed to be treated” he said. The Tufuhene said the team numbering about 12 did not heed his advice and forcibly arrested Cudjoe dumped him in a pick-up and sent him to the Axim Police Station. However visits to the Regional Police Commander to ascertain the full facts of the case did not yield any results.Source: The Ghanaian Times
