Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Malik Kweku Baako Jnr has described as “politically immature and inexpedient” a new book on the postmortem of the NPP defeat in the 2008 elections.
The book written by Dr. Arthur Kennedy and titled- “Chasing The Elephant Into The Bush - The Politics Of Complacency,” chronicles a number of lapses which culminated into the defeat of the NPP.
But in a contribution on Peace FM’s Kokrookoo, a newspaper review programme, Malik Baako noted that the decision to publish the book was counter-productive and would work against the party.
Whilst he appreciates Dr. Arthur Kennedy’s enthusiasm to enrich the academic and political discourse in the country, he opined that the timing of the release of the book was, to say the least, 'tactless', and at worst 'naive'.
According to him, any serious political party will conduct thorough research to find out the reasons for the outcome of an election, something he suspected has been done by the NPP, but noted, such information must be privy only to the top echelons of the party to inform strategies for the next election.
Arthur Kennedy’s research, credible or not, he fears, will be used as a propaganda tool against the NPP.
Kweku Baako suspects the book would rake in huge financial returns for the author, given the public interest it has generated so far, but was cautious in attributing financial motives, rather than development of the party, as reason for the book’s publication.
