The Police Command at Offinso in the Ashanti Region says calm has returned to the area after chaos erupted at the constituency election of the ruling National Democratic Congress.Speaking to Asempa News the Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kojo Appiah, said the police were able to manage the confusion by the rampaging supporters who engaged in stone throwing .He said a police officer who sustained injury when he was hit by a stone in the melee has been treated.
In a related development, there was confusion at Akropong in the Eastern Region when the constituency election of the NDC ended in riots with the firing of tear gas by the police to disperse the rampaging crowd. All attempts, including the organization of a press conference, by the constituency chairman Mr. Willie Addo Brown, on Saturday could not stop the election from taking place. When Asempa FM’s reporter spoke to one of the victims of the confusion, Richard Parpa, he cited a security officer, suspected to come from the National Security, who accompanied Mrs Comfort Adjei, the wife of the National Chairman to the function, as one of the attackers.Mr. Parpa said the gentleman, currently in police custody, attempted to spray pepper on him but his agility saved him.Story by Kojo Asare-Baffour Acheampong
