Some live bird traders in Accra say they are unaware of the Agric Ministry’s recent ban on the sale and movement of live birds.
The directive is a measure to prevent further outbreaks of the avian influenza in the city and its environs.
Director of Vete-rinary Services Dr Ben Aniwa has advised the general public and especially cockerel and pullet vendors to cease the practice until further.
She explained the movement of the birds poses a threat to humans and other birds.
But some of the vendors JOYNEWS spoke to say they have not been informed about the ban.
They said they needed thorough explannations from the authorities before such a ban could be effected.
They want the authorities to quickly find a lasting solution to the canker.
A woman who had just purchased a fowl told Hanna Odame she has confidence that the fowl purchased has no bird flu.
She said she has been buying the fowl at the same place for years and not once has she experienced any bird flu infection.
