A Spokesperson for Vice President Mahama, Johm Jinapor, says President Mills has not failed ‘woefully’ contrary to popular opinion.
According to him, the government has been able to reduce inflation, developed the agric sector and other areas.
“Look at inflation," he said, "look at the exchange rate, foreign reserves, agriculture and many other indicators.”
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Evans Atta Mills has come under so much criticism from party members and the opposition that it is acting too slowly and under-performing.
Ex-President Rawlings, who is also the founder of the NDC, has been the main accuser of the President. He once threatened to quit the party if President Mills and his ministers, whom he described as sycophants, bootlickers and the like, do not sit up.
In his latest criticism, the ex-president expressed dissatisfaction at the kind of people around the President, calling them ‘traitors, opportunists and undesirables’.
The former President noted that the majority of people in the current government are new and not truly committed to the ideals of the party and the success of the Mills administration, insisting they must be shown the door.
However, John Jinapor, who was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Programme Wednesday, maintained that most people in the current government contributed in one way or the other to ensure the NDC won power, therefore ‘shutting the doors’ of the party to such people would be inconsiderate.
“Some people might not even be NDC supporters but they voted for the party, and you have to take care of all these people,” he stressed.
He entreated the party leadership to "open the doors" of the party and entice young people to join because “you don’t win elections by shutting your doors”.
