A 60-year-old man defied all instincts of mercy when he murdered his lawfully wedded wife and hang himself.
Edward Marfo, a resident of Santa Maria, a suburb of Accra has been living happily with 25-year-old Florence Ama and their two children until a couple of weeks ago.
Last Monday, the man took the children to the wife’s parents complaining Florence had left her matrimonial home after a little disagreement.
Family members began a search for their daughter to convince her to return home.
Wednesday morning, fellow tenants of the couple woke up to the shocking sight of the man hanging dead on a tree.
Landlord of the deceased, Ransford Addy, said an overpowering smell from the man’s room led to the discovery of the decomposing body of his wife.
She had apparently been killed by Marfo three days earlier.
The Odorkor police have begun investigations into the incident. The Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer Asare, said: “We saw a knife and an iron bar in the room.”
The Santa Maria case brings to four the number of suicide cases reported in a month. Last week, a mother poisoned her five children before she took her own life.
There is also the case of the Pentecost university student who also committed suicide.
The University of Development Studies (UDS) also recently mourned the death of a student who took his life.
