One person suspected to be a worker of the Tema Oil Refinery is reported dead while another has sustained serious burns after fire gutted the loading bay of the refinery.
The dead, said to have been burnt beyond recognition, is believed to be a man while the man who sustained burns has been rushed to the Tema General Hospital.
Six tankers were burnt completely while a seventh, in an attempt to escape the blaze, ran into a drain.
The head of the Industrial Area Fire Service, who led a team of personnel to the fire scene, told Obonu FM that the fire had been brought under control and that the burning substance was fuel.
He said his office spotted thick smoke from the TOR area but without a fire tender, he and his men had to walk for some distance before being offered a lift and luckily arrived at the scene to find the TOR fire brigade at work already.
Other fire teams from the police, GHAPOHA, VALCO and the military joined in the efforts to put down the fire.
