The US Embassy in Accra would present the 2010 Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Peace and Social Justice, to Mrs. Janet Mohammed Adama in recognition of her 20 years of work in peace building.
Mrs Adama is also being rewarded for her emergency response to local and regional conflicts and devotion to resolve political and religious conflicts in the Northern Region.
A press statement issued by the Public Affairs section of the embassy to the Ghana News Agency, said she was able to do this by mobilising the youth, women, farmers, elders and chiefs to create sustainable peace through dialogue and mutual understanding.
It said the award recognised Ghanaians who exemplified the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. by helping to build a culture of peace making, dialogue and conflict resolution.
In addition, it honours activists who had promoted social justice, stability, human rights, and peace through non-violent means.
The award ceremony will take place during breakfast at the US Ambassador’s residence, on Thursday, January 21.
Ms. Angelina Dwamena-Aboagye of Ark Foundation received the award for 2009.
