The Greater Accra Regional Police Command is launching a massive swoop across the capital targeting hideouts of robbers following the recent surge in armed attacks in the capital.
The intelligence-led swoops are designed to clamp down on criminal activities.
One of such swoops Saturday led to arrest of some 37 people suspected to have been involved in the incessant armed robbery attacks at Amanfrom.
Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Christian Tetteh Yohuno says the police would stop at nothing in ensuring the safety and security of the people of Accra.
He said the police will also be considering areas like Community 18 in Tema, Oyarifa and Oyibi for similar swoops.
He urged the public and residents living in these areas to willingly volunteer information that will help the police as they embark on these exercises.
He added that an award scheme is available for those who contact the police with valuable information.
Meanwhile, the police are suspecting that some displaced criminals from the recently demolished Sodom and Gomorrah slum could be engaging in ruthless attacks resulting in the rise in criminal activities in the region.
DCOP Yohuno said members of the gangs causing trouble in the region will not be spared when caught.
In a related development, the Interior Minister has defended the decision by the Amanfrom Municipal Assembly to impose a tall list of demands on residents, including the provision of cement bags and motorbikes to guarantee their security.
Mark Woyongo says central government cannot do everything so there is nothing wrong with the appeal being made for the residents to help in securing their area to get rid of armed robbers.
