The Ghana grid company (GRIDCO) has begun a one month load-shedding in parts of Accra and hopes the exercise will be supported by the public.
Head of Public Relations Albert Kwasi Quainor told Joy News the load- shedding will make way for major construction works on some transmission lines from Aboadze to the Tema shipyard.
He said his outfit together with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have resolved to give prior notice to consumers on when the electricity will be off in various localities.
“We have had a series of radio interviews and lots of publications in the newspapers to draw the attention of the public to what we are doing.
“We have told ECG to publish the areas that will have the load-shedding and this has been done, they will continue doing it during the period that we will do the work,” he said.
Mr Quainor assured consumers the exercise will be suspended during the Easter celebration to minimize the effect of the power outages.
He also added that the severity of the outages will be minimized during week-ends.
He appealed to consumers to cooperate with the service providers during the exercise.
The exercise started on Sunday, 21st March, 2010 and is scheduled to end in a month’s time.
