A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of Buipe in the Northern Region has expressed concern over what they say is the government’s delay in establishing a shea butter processing plant promised the area.
Four months after the sod-cutting ceremony was done by the vice-president John Mahama, the group insists nothing has been done on the project site.
Speaking to Citi News after a press conference on Wednesday, Seidu Awudu, spokesperson of the group, wondered whether the project will even be executed.
He lamented that after the sod-cutting ceremony was done on November 16, 2009 with a follow-up by President Mills a month later, nothing substantial has been done on the project.
He said the people of Buipe will continue to remind the government about its promise to them and hope it will be fulfilled.
The $10 million project which is part of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) is expected to mitigate the level of poverty in the area and is scheduled to be completed in 18 months.
The project when completed will be a source of raw material for the Produce Buying Company Ltd (PBC) and a Brazilian company working in the sector.
