Merchants, banks and other operators of the e-zwich point of sale devices can now reconcile their transactions in real time so long as they have internet connectivity.
This follows the introduction of a utility software known as the PC-PAD which can be operated from any computer connected to the internet.
Officials at the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) tell Joy Business the facility provides an alternative so users can process transactions even when the signal for their mobile phone platform is unavailable or weak.
General Manager in charge of Business Development at GhIPSS, Archie Hesse, tells Joy News the introduction of the online platform will be a good alternative to mobile phone connections – on which the system runs currently.
The e-zwich system introduced barely two years ago, has not received the best response from merchants, Joy News findings have indicated.
Traders say customers hardly buy with the card, a pointer to a general lack of interest and culture of card usage.
If well-implemented, e-zwich will make the economy more cashless.
