SG-SSB is introducing a new bank branch model it says will change the phase of banking.
The Compact Branch model, designed to be small enough to fit into places that are convenient and accessible to customers including filling stations, will focus on offering the basic banking services such as deposits and withdrawals.
Additionally, customers will be able to deposit monies at any time of day whether or not the bank is open.
Bank officials explain most backroom functions at such branches would be handled at the head office.
Managing Director Allain Bellisard tells Joy Business the strategy is to provide customers just what they need in the shortest possible time.
The Compact Branch concept is one of the projects the bank promised to roll out with the additional capital it raised in its right issue in October last year. Another project is the spot banking concept.
Bank officials explain they have not been opening new branches for some time now because their concentration has been development of personnel and infrastructure internally.
The first compact branch is expected to be launched on Thursday.
