The suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko has sued the NPP and the party’s 1st National Vice Chairman Freddy Blay.

In a suit filed in an Accra High Court today, December 7, 2015, Mr. Afoko in his statement of claim insisted that he is the duly elected Chairman of the NPP.

The New Patriotic Party and Freddy Blay - first and second defendants respectively -, have eight days to respond to the writ.

Mr. Paul Afoko was suspended indefinitely by the party in October after NPP’s Disciplinary Committee recommended his suspension following a petition filed by two members of the party.

The recommendation was unanimously endorsed by the NPP National Executive Committee on October 23, and Freddy Blay was made to act in his stead, a statement issued by the party said.

Though the party claimed the decision was unanimous, some members of the executive committee have publicly spoken against it.

Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe, General Secretary and Second National Chairman respectively, who themselves have suspension noose around their necks, have contested the procedure used in suspending Mr. Afoko.

Days after his suspension, Paul Afoko participated in a highly publicized forum organised by the Electoral Commission on the voter’s register. He told the media he was there in his capacity as the chairman of the NPP.

Later, the suspension was upheld by the National Council of the Party on November 12.
