‘Investing in people’ may sound more of a political cliché but the celebrated entrepreneur who retained his enviable credential as the most respected CEO in Ghana says that is the lifeblood for the success of his company. According to Capt Kofi Amoabeng, the CEO of UT Holdings, believing and investing in people are key values which run through the veins of his company and which stimulate growth and development. He was speaking with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah on Monday on how businesses will keep their heads afloat in a competitive market. His statement comes only days after he was adjudged the most respected CEO by his peers. “There must be love and respect for all in the company,” he said, adding systems rather than individuals must be put in place to regulate activities in the company. The ex-army officer also reiterated the need to keep to time, stating “time is life.” “If for a reason I am late for a meeting in the office, the meeting will have to start without me and an apology given later when I join in,” he said. “I don’t have to mess up somebody’s life,” he added. Mrs Jane Ohenewaa Gyekye, Chief HR Business Partner at Multimedia who was also in the studio, said companies must at all times churn out services that are relevant to the community. That, she said, motivated the ‘birth’ of the many business units- Myjoyonline.com, Luv FM, Adom FM after Joy FM was established some 15 years ago. The company’s CEO Kwasi Twum was adjudged the third most respected CEO in Ghana in a ceremony organised at the weekend. On tapping the best human resources for a company, Mrs Gyekye noted that a rigorous selection technique aimed at assessing attitudes of prospective employees must always be adopted.
