Labour expert, Austin Gamey has cautioned workers in Tema to only resort to demonstrations as a last resort when making demands.
The workers yesterday embarked on a demonstration in solidarity with their colleagues at the Tema Oil Refinery who have been agitating against a lack of crude oil for the refinery to process and the withdrawal of the licenses of some four stevedoring companies.
Mr. Gamey says demonstrations lead to huge revenue losses and should therefore be used only after all diplomatic avenues have been exhausted.
He however tells Joy Business government would have to tackle the issue of the stevedoring companies cautiously because of the jobs at stake.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority will on Wednesday address the concerns raised by staff of the four stevedoring companies who operate from the Tema and Takoradi ports.
According to the workers about 2,000 of them could be rendered jobless by the end of this month unless the GPHA renews the licenses of their employers.
But the GPHA says the companies have misunderstood some policies it is implementing at the port and will use the news conference to clarify its position on the matter.
