About 20 heavily armed police personnel were deployed to maintain order at the NPP headquarters in Accra following Wednesday afternoon's skirmishes there.

The party’s internal security, the Invincible Forces, this afternoon chased away supporters of a parliamentary aspirant Nii Noi Nortey who had stormed the party headquarters.

The forces wielding machetes went on a rampage and chased away the party supporters as well as journalists who had come to cover the commotion.

The party supporters had come to protest a potential decision by the party to re-run the Klottey Korle NPP primary.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander Dr. George Dampare had to lead his men to takeover security at the headquarters at Asylum Down.

Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh Nuamah who was at the party’s headquarters Wednesday evening said about 12 police vehicles were seen stationed at the opposition party’s headquarters.

He said a taxi driver who claimed he was hired by the protestors from Osu to the headquarters was allegedly assaulted by the Invincible Forces.

The taxi driver who had his car damaged had filed a formal complaint with the police.

The police, Afreh said, are also relying on photos and video footages taken in the heat of the confrontation in their investigations.

The police, Joy News learnt, presented the videos and photos to the National Executive Committee who were having a crunch meeting there, asking them to produce the members of the Invincible Forces involved in the attack.

The flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo was said to be in the meeting discussing the possible rerun of the Korle Klottey primary and the party’s forthcoming delegates’ conference in Sunyani next week.

DCOP Dr. George Dampare, who was recently appointed as the regional commander, indicated to Joy News that his leadership would not tolerate impunity and violence in the name of politics.
