Former Ghanaian President, John Kufuor, yesterday in Lagos, advised Nigerians to cooperate with President Goodluck Jonathan, noting that Nigeria is enveloped in crisis with the coming in of Jonathan. Kufuor said as the country matches towards another general election in 2011, the new helmsman should be given time to take firm control of Africa’s most populous country. The Ghanaian former leader stated this Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos when he came from Abuja to meet with the former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who came from Ota, Ogun state to meet with him at the airport. He said that the clamour for the incumbent president to run as presidential candidate in 2011 and the agitation that the zoning system in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must be observed are internal political issues for Nigeria, advising that Jonathan should be allowed to settle on the job so that he would provide the good leadership Nigeria wants. “One, I would say this is very much an internal matter for Nigeria, our biggest country in the continent. And two, I am sure now there is a bit of crisis, the President is very new. Let him settle into his job and I am sure he will give the leadership the nation wants,” Kufuor said. Kufuor, who held a meeting with Obasanjo for 25 minutes in one of the inner rooms of the Presidential Lounge at the airport, said that he held important discussion with him about the growth of the continent and how to stabilise democracy in Africa, adding that it is the hope that the region moved forward steadily for the benefit of the citizenry.
