Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has charged members of the New Patriotic Party to do away with suspicions within the party and unite.
Speaking at the 15TH Extraordinary Conference in Sunyani, Saturday, J A Kufuor said “We need every vote, we tend to suspect each other too much. Let us sacrifice and go for the power that is beckoning us and with that we shall transform Ghana.”
The New Patriotic Party as a result of some infighting has lost two of its members within six months.
Mr Paul Afoko, the party’s elected National Chairman was suspended indefinitely by a unanimous decision by the National Executive Committee of the party in October.
His suspension according to the party became necessary because of his failure to honour several invitations by its Disciplinary Committee. The Chairman has since been challenging the decision.
According to him, the processes that led to his suspension are illegal. A case he filed in court against the party over his suspension was thrown out.
On 10th December, Kwabena Agyapong, General Secretary of the party and Sammy Crabbe, who is the 2nd Vice Chairman were also suspended indefinitely. This came after some NPP members filed a petition against the two for undermining the party’s authority.
But the former President of Ghana has called for peace and unity in the party.
“We must put a stop to the infighting. Our DNA is democracy. Everybody must feel included. Let's close our ranks and once we show unity, we will become sexy to floating voters and even to some NDC members because they are also suffering,” he urged.
Kufuor added that all members should rally behind the flagbearer and his running mate to achieve victory in 2016. He urged the party Chairmen from National to regional and constituency levels to “see themselves as servants of the party.”
