New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah has been sued by persons suspected to be supporters of the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Irene Naa Torshie Addo.
One Nana Yaw Ntim of address number BAC 2/4, Baatsona, Accra and Christian Joseph also of H/No S/59, Ofoe Agronti, Sarkomono filed a suit against Carlos Ahenkorah praying the court to disqualify him [Carlos] as a parliamentary candidate of the NPP.
This according to the suit is because Carlos Ahenkorah was not a registered voter in the Tema West constituency at the time of the conduct of the NPP primary in the constituency.
The petition also called for his disqualification on the grounds that Mr. Ahenkorah, is not a Ga indigene yet contested in a coastal community.
Carlos Ahenkorah defeated NPP incumbent MP for Tema West, Irene Naa Torshie Addo in the party’s Parliamentary Primaries held Monday.
Carlos Ahenkorah polled 503 while Naa Torshie Addo had 273.
The other contender Adwoa Amoakoa had 2 votes.
Carlos Ahenkorah had earlier been disqualified from the race following accusations that he had not nurtured the party in the constituency.
Though he was later cleared by the NPP’s Steering Committee, Naa Torshie Addo vowed to appeal the decision.
She contends that the Steering Committee does not have the power to revoke Vetting Committee’s decision adding that “I don’t think the steering committee has the locus to do that. They can’t just get up and say that these people should contest. I think they have to be fair to the vetting committee.”
