The president of Jayee University College (JUC), Mr John Emmanuel Donkoh, has underscored the need to equip media practitioners with the requisite skills to enable them perform their duties in a manner that would promote peace. He stated that a recent survey on the number of media houses in the country revealed a total of 200 media houses (both print and electronic) with the Brong Ahafo Region alone having about 25 of them. Sad though was the fact that the study recorded only 20% qualified staff in specialist areas of journalism. This, according to Mr Donkor, is the result of “what we are seeing and hearing on the airwaves, creating social, cultural and political disorder in the country.” Mr Emmanuel Donkoh, who was speaking at the 3rd Congregation of the JUC on Saturday, noted that it is in light of the above problem that the university is poised to shape the quality of its institutional capacity and programme contents to desirable standards.
