The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed party communicators not to comment on recent remarks by suspended party Chairman, Paul Afoko.

A statement signed by NPP Deputy Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto, notes Paul Afoko’s comments during an interview last Saturday are only a distraction.

“Mr. Afoko himself has taken his grievances to court. The party will respond to him in court,” the statement said.

The former party Chairman spoke on TV3’s Hot Issues on Saturday where he rejected allegations of gross disrespect against the party Council of Elders – an demeanour that caused his indefinite suspension.

“Me disrespecting the Council of Elders? No, it’s not true. I don’t think there is any national chairman who has been subjected to what this Council of Elders has done to me,” Mr Afoko said on the show.

Paul Afoko also recounted how he was turned away from one of the scheduled meetings with the Council of Elders.

“For the first time I was called to a national council of elders meeting but I was in another meeting and I informed the people in that meeting; four MPs and one former general secretary that I am due to meet the council of elders so I had to go. They said chairman we have not finished but I told them we can continue later” he said.

But the NPP Communications Directorate does not want Mr Afoko to be given any attention.

“No comment on the matters he has raised, there are grave issues of national importance including the relocation of suspected terrorists into Ghana, the imposition of crippling utility and petroleum tariffs and prices, corruption within the NDC government, Electoral Commission and the voters register among others, that should engage our attention,” the NPP statement said.

The communication Directorate has taken note of the desire of many communicators to respond forcefully to comments made by Mr Paul Afoko in a television interview on Saturday.

The directorate however cautions all communicator not to be distracted by Mr Afoko’s comments, Mr Afoko himself has taken his grievances to court. The party will respond to him in court.

In the meantime, NO COMMENT, on the matters he has raised, there are grave issues of national importance including the relocation of suspected terrorists into Ghana, the imposition of crippling utility and petroleum tariffs and prices, corruption within the NDC government, Electoral Commission and the voters register among others, that should engage our attention.

Communicators and party members should focus on these and not allow themselves to be distracted, no matter how contentious.
