Local foam manufacturers say the duty-free incentives offered foreign companies importing mattresses and other foam products are threatening to collapse the local industry. Ashfoam officials says the practice puts the local manufacturers at a disadvantage as it makes imported products cheaper. This the officials stress is not good for government’s plan to stimulate local industry. Speaking to Joy Business after the company out-doored a 20th depot in Tema, the Managing Director of Ashfoam, George Missis tells Joy Business, competition especially from Nigeria is a major threat to their business. According to him, the ECOWAS protocol which guarantees free movement of goods across the West African border is slowly drowning their business and urged the Ministry of Trade to put in policies that will be in their favour.
