The Convention People’s Party is the latest to reject recent increases in utility tariffs. The party says apart from worsening poverty, the increase will seriously affect businesses. President Mills has justified the tariff hikes saying it is a necessary evil. But the CPP says the increase demonstrates the insensitivity of the Mills administration. The Communications Director of the party William Doworkpor said the increases run counter to the promise of the government to provide a better Ghana. Given the rather poor services provided by the utility services, Mr. Doworkpor said the increases are not justified. He described as unacceptable President Mills’ explanation that the increases were to ensure that businesses pay amounts expected of them. Meanwhile the national union of Ghana students is also kicking against the adjustment saying the utility companies do not deserve such tariff increases because of their poor services.
