Incumbent National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Akwatia Baba Jamal has won the party’s parliamentary primaries.
Baba Jamal polled 3653 votes while his only contender Mr. Basile Ahiable, a businessman polled 2016 votes.
The election was not without chaos. Early on a young man who is believed to be about 30 years disrupted election process in one of the polling stations when he pulled a knife and threatened to stab one of the NDC voters.
Nana Yaw Darko, narrowly escaped the stab wounds when he was chased by the unidentified man to a lorry station close to the polling centre.
It took the intervention of eye witnesses to save the life of the young man, Joy News' Eastern Region correspondent Haruna Wumpini reported.
There were also challenges with the voting process as some of the prospective voters could not and did not cast their ballots.
The challenged notwithstanding, the NDC's Eastern Regional Secretary Mark Kemevor believed the process went well.
" It all went well. In general and overall situation it was very peaceful. People lined to cast their vote in a free and fair atmosphere.
"We voted in 22 polling centres after that results were declared at the polling centres after the EC declared in favour of Baba Jamal," he stated.
