Britain has pledged to support Ghana’s Electoral Commission with logistics needed for the November 2016 general elections.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin gave this assurance when he paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso and her deputy, Francis Ganyaglo in Ho.

The last general election in December 2012 was finally decided by the Supreme Court after the opposition New patriotic partychallenged the results.

The party lost to John Mahama’s National Democratic Congress by more than 350,000 votes. Four years on, the controversies and clashes between NPP and NDC are set for replay as the two remain in pole positions to win.

A victory will put the ruling government in the driving seat for a record 12 uninterrupted years and consign the opposition NPP to a record 12years  in the backwaters of opposition politics since the 4^th republic began in 1992.

This scenario has heightened stakes in the election barely 10 months away.

The High Commissioner explained that deepening the credibility of the November 7 elections is of utmost interest for the UK government hence the support.

Jon Benjamin who also had a meeting with regional executives of the various political parties admonished the parties and the entire citizenry to endeavour to make the November polls a peaceful one.

The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso was optimistic the campaign will be peaceful. She also appealed to the High Commissioner to consider supporting the youth along the Volta Lake who want to engage in aquaculture and irrigation farming.

Jon Benjamin’s visit was also to familiarise himself with the region and as well inspect projects being undertaken in the Volta region by the British Embassy.
