A research think tank, Development Data, says it expects the National Petroleum Authority to announce new petroleum prices as soon as possible after a court declared as illegal one of the levies imposed on the product.
Development Data raised objections to the ex-refinery differential levy soon after it was introduced saying its imposition was not transparent enough.
An Accra Fast Track High Court yesterday ruled against the NPA after it failed to appear in court to state its defence.
Leading fellow of Development Data, Kweku Kwarteng tells Joy Business the NPA must speed up the process of announcing the price reviews in order not to stand in contempt of court.
“The plaintiff are expecting the NPA to announce new fuel prices minus the ex-refinery differential component,” he said.
The price differential he said, ranges from GH¢1.00 to .40p per gallon on the various petroleum commodities.
The court also ruled that all moneys collected from the ex refinery differential should be declared publicly and paid into the consolidated fund.
Kweku Kwarteng, says Development Data will keep a close eye on the NPA to ensure it complies with the ruling.
