An Accra Fast Track High court is said to have directed the Bank of Ghana to reinstate two former employees who were dismissed two years ago.
The two, Benjamin Duffour who chaired the Senior Staff Association and his Secretary Frank Otti Mensah were handed dismissal letters in July 2008 with no reasons provided for the termination of their appointments.
It was however widely speculated that they were dismissed for trying to instigate their colleagues to embark on a strike.
The two have been in court since then to challenge their dismissal until judgment was awarded in their favour yesterday.
The former Senior Staff Association Chair, Benjamin Duffour explained to Joy Business excerpts of the court ruling.
“Through it all, it was established that because of their vocal stance that they took in certain practices of management of the bank, they felt that is the only way they could get them out of the place,” he said.
He adds that he and his colleague Frank Otti Mensah are happy that justice has been served even though it’s taken quite a while.
“The only reservation I have is that its taken just a long time.”
“…It’s a fast track high court you’ve been there for two years; how you will survive with your family and all that.
The Central Bank has confirmed the ruling against them even though it says it is yet to receive a certified copy.
Esi Hammond told Joy Business “we do respect the ruling of the court but we will not want to make any further comment at this stage. We have to wait and receive the certified copy of the judgement and then we will know the details and move on from there.”
