Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, says he cannot comprehend why critics are always descending on the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Kesson-Smith Ossining, anytime there are issues concerning the Commission.
Pratt argues that whatever decision the EC Chair makes is obviously in consultation with other members of the Commission, hence a collective one.
The recently inaugurated 18-member election Steering Committee has been hit by allegations that it is made up of of card holding members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This prompted the withdrawal of Dr Karl Mark Arhin, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Service Scheme.
A political pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance, as well as several political parties, have called on the EC to get rid of the Committee entirely, but the Commission.
On Friday, reports emerged about the suspension of the committee following a meeting with the various political parties after an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.
But the EC on Saturday made a u-turn again, saying reports of the suspension of its steering committee are "erroneous" and "should be disregarded".
The EC in a statement released less than 24 hours after the meeting and signed by it's Director Public Relations, Christian Owusu Parry says its decision has been misconstrued.
Speaking on Radio Gold’s ‘Alhaji Alhaji’ Saturday, Pratt stated: “I don’t understand why every decision by the EC is being personalized and directed at Charlotte Osei.
“Is she the only person who makes up the Commission? I think we should be fair to the lady. If we do that, it won’t take long before all our institutions and national institutions will be smeared,” he warned.
