The Ghana Statistical Service has announced a single digit inflation of 9.52 for the month of June.
It is the first time in many years that the country has achieved a single digit inflation.
The current Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, who was the governor of the Bank of Ghana in 1999 when a 9.4 figure was achieved, has hailed the latest inflationary figure of 9.52, saying it confirms that the government's Better Ghana Agenda is well on course.
The Ghana Statistical Service is yet to give reasons for the attainment of a single-digit inflation but Dr Duffuor believes the government's prudent management of the economy accounts for the achievement of the figure.
In an interview with Joy Business' Israel Laryea, the minister dismissed claims by critics that the downward trend of the inflation is as a result of lack of spending by the government, adding that government spent more in 2009 than it did in 2008.
The new figure, he said is a testament that government is on the right track.
