Human rights lawyer Nana Oye Lithur is calling for stiffer sanctions for perpetrators of domestic violence.
She says more must be done to assure victims also of better protection.
It follows the story that a man in police grip forced his wife to swallow his faeces during a scuffle.
The woman is said to be deeply traumatized and has been receiving counseling following the incident.
A psychologist DSP Bismark Agyepong says the victim might not recover anytime soon from your trauma.
Human rights lawyer Nana Oye Lithur wants the accused to be handed the maximum punishment provided by the law if found guilty.
“It’s so despicable; the laws are very clear. He must face the rigours of the laws,” she said.
