An 80-year-old woman, Mary Obosu, is suspected to have committed suicide by burning herself on her bed at Apam on Tuesday.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Apam on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oduro Amaning, the Apam District Commander of Police, said the body was found by a relative who was caring for the deceased when she went to give her the evening meals at about 1700 hours.
He said the body was found in a supine position with the legs placed on a stool beside the bed.
The upper part of the body was burnt together with the mattress and wooden bed.
The police found that the deceased was the landlord of the compound house and that the tenants were fishermen and women who left home in the morning and returned in the evening so they suspected that at the time of the incident there was nobody in the house.
Mr Amaning said a lantern and a box of matches found under the bend made them to suspect that the deceased caused suicide.
