The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has resolved an impasse between the Ghana Police and the Ghanaian Times newspaper.The dispute was over a publication on Wednesday, suggesting that armed robbers had taken over an uncompleted building belonging to the Police Administration.The Police were considering preferring criminal charges against the editor of the newspaper, Mr Enimil Ashon, accusing him of certifying a publication intended to cause fear and panic, when the GJA decided to intervene.Joy News’ Sammy Darko who was monitoring developments at the meeting between the police, the GJA and Ghanaian Times officials, reported that the GJA will be issuing a statement on the resolution reached by the parties.He said the Ghanaian Times stood by its story, maintaining it did nothing wrong and that the story was published without any malicious intent.The police however disagreed, arguing that the paper had no credible basis to suggest that the people occupying the uncompleted buildings were armed robbers as claimed in the story.Management of the Ghanaian Times resolved that if the police wished to write a rejoinder to the publication, the paper will live up to its responsibilities by publishing any such rejoinder.According to Sammy Darko, the police also raised concerns of incidence of media personnel publishing unsubstantiated stories.Source: Joy News/Ghana
