Police in Kumasi on Friday shot and killed a suspected criminal at Atwima Agogo in the Ashanti Region.
Regional Head of the Buffalo Unit, DSP Adane Ameyaw, who led a team to arrest a murder suspect, was hit when the gang opened fire on the police.
The suspect Kwaku Asante and his gang have been on police wanted list for killing one Yaw Akoto in October last year.
Police launched an operation to arrest the fugitives following reports that they had re-surfaced in the town.
Although ten persons were rounded up police have yet to establish a case against anyone, Chief Inspector Mohammed Tanko, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
