The leadership of the NPP says it will convince parliamentary aspirant, Nii Noi Nortey, to rescind his decision to contest the November election as an independent candidate.

Nii Noi declared his intention to go independent after losing a re-run of the Klottey Korle constituency primary to Philip Addison.

Speaking with Joy News’ Raymond Acquah, Greater Accra regional chairman of the party, Ishmael Ashitey, said the party needs the support of every member, underscoring the decision to reach out to Mr. Nortey.

“He [Nii Noi] is a human being he can always change his mind,” Ishmael Ashittey said.

Meanwhile, a Governance Expert and lecturer at the Evangelical Presbyterian University in the Ho Municipality has predicted that the decision by Nii Noi Nortey to contest as an independent candidate would reduce the total votes cast for the party in that constituency.

Edem Deikuma also notes that should Nii Noi Nortey lose the 2016 parliamentary election his acceptance into the party would be difficult.

“The party executives should have invited him, advised him and try solving the issues instead of allowing him to go independent. The votes could be divided which may not be too good for the party,’’ Deikumah stated.
