Police service have promised improved service following huge increase in their salaries under single spine salary structure.
Police officers are excited about their new salaries under the single spine pay policy.
Joy Business has learnt the new pay policy guarantees at least 700 Ghana cedis for the least ranked officers who used to take home around 200 Ghana cedis.
The administration has assured this will greatly boost the morale of officers to give off their best and discourage corrupt practices.
But a security expert disagrees. While commending the development, Emmanuel Sowatey, says the pay rise does not guarantee better performance. He wants government to, in addition, provide the logistical needs of the police service.
Mr. Sowatey believes punitive measures are also required to discourage and uproot corruption.
“I don’t think it will necessarily lead to better policing," he said, adding, “If you increase the salary you are tackling about 35 per cent of the problem.”
He said issues about recruitment, oversight responsibilities and watch dog roles by the media will be crucial in the fight against corruption in the Police Service.
