CDD-Ghana’s Head of Programmes, Kojo Pumpuni Asante is in Washington DC to take part in President Obama’s Forum for Young African Leaders. The August 3-5 Forum provides a platform for about 120 Young Leaders from across Sub-Saharan Africa to describe their vision for Africa’s future and how the United States can better partner with Africa’s non-governmental and business leaders to support political, economic, and social development on the continent. In addition to a town hall meeting with President Obama, the forum will include small group discussions on topics such as transparency and accountability, job creation, entrepreneurship, rights advocacy, and the use of technology in development and reform. A statement signed by the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Johnnie Carson said “We see our role as that of convener, encouraging networks among young African leaders and American counterparts. You will be asked to bring from your country your generation’s vision for Africa and how you might achieve that vision. This dialogue and follow-up events in Africa will help us better understand how to support Africa’s aspirations.”
