The Ghana Highway Authority [GHA] says it will increase the number of automated toll booths on our highways to boost revenue collection and help reduce traffic build up at the toll booths.
The authority says it has monitored the running of the new system and believes an addition of the automated system will improve service delivery.
Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Highway Authority Kwadwo Aboagye tells Asempa News his outfit will continually seek the improvement of the toll booth to make it more efficient.
He was speaking on the 36th anniversary celebration of the change from left-hand-drive vehicles to using right-hand-drive vehicles, which is a deviation from what pertains in neighboring francophone countries.
After 36 years, Ghana has again made history when she migrated from the manual ticketing at toll booths on major roads, to an innovated automated system in April this year.
The automation of the tollbooth is operated with a state of the art electronic sensors and equipments to detect the type of vehicle and then generate a ticket with the bill to be paid.
The system also detects the number of vehicles and the exact time they pass, reconciling with the amount paid and total revenue generated within a given time period.
But the GHA boss says in spite of the successes chalked, the authority will work on teething problems of the system to improve on it.
