The Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper is accusing the police administration of allowing itself to be used as a propaganda tool in the passage of the STX deal by the majority in parliament.
According to him, the mass of police men organised and brought to witness proceedings in the House on the day of the approval of the deal is, to say the least, unfortunate.
Scores of policemen were Tuesday morning brought in four buses and strategically positioned at the gallery of Parliament to witness a protracted debate which lasted close to ten hours.
The majority leader, Cletus Avoka in his closing remarks on the debate said the NPP minority did not even have sympathy for the policemen seated.
This, Kweku Baako, an avowed critic of the NDC, believes is unacceptable.
He had advocated for a consensus to have the agreement passed, but was angered by what he says are the tactics of the government, especially its use of the police to have the deal go through.
“And for them (police) to be used for political football; for propaganda; it is not fair to the police. Let’s leave that thing out,” he said in a discussion on Peace FM.
He said tactics like that “irritates” and “distorts” an otherwise healthy debate on a laudable project.
Deputy Minister of Works and Housing Dr. Hannah Bisew who was also on the show believes the STX deal was in the best interest of the police and its passage was victory for the security agencies.
She said the implementation of the deal will also bring employment to many and will largely boost the economy.
She added that with the houses in place the security services will have their peace of mind to undertake their constitutionally mandated duties.
