Participants at the first consultative meeting of the Constitutional Review Commission in Tamale have advocated affirmative action for women to be included in the constitution in order to bridge the gender gap.
The commission is holding a two-day regional level hearing and mini consultations in Tamale.
The forum which saw participation from chiefs in the area, also raised concerns about the cultural discrimination of women.
Papa Kow Acquaye, Public Relations Officer of the Constitutional Review Commission told Joy News the participants called for the affirmative action into the constitution “whereby quotas are given to women to enter not only the educational institutions as we have in the universities but even in politics boards and commissions.”
Others, he noted also called for the elimination of all forms of discriminations against women in terms of culture and trial by ordeal.
