Mr. Harona Essekou, an elder of the opposition NPP says a Nana Addo-Alan Kyeremanten ticket for the 2012 elections will spell doom for the party. Mr. Esseku told Citi News Tuesday Mr. Kyeremanten, who has on two occasions come second to Nana Addo in the party’s presidential primaries, would not want to play second-fiddle to Nana Addo. There have been calls by some members of the NPP particularly polling station executives, to present an Alan-Nana ticket for 2012, with explanations that the two would be a formidable force for the NDC. The NPP by convention and for political convenience often pairs a Northerner with a Southerner for their presidential ticket. A Political Sociologist at the University of Cape Coast, Kingsley Adjei told Citi News on Monday August 9, that pairing Nana Addo with Alan Kyeremanten will not be out of place. Though Mr. Esseku is not averse to pairing a southerner with Nana Addo, he strongly believes the party will be setting the stage for political warfare between the two gentlemen if that pairing is done and by so doing, signing the NPP’s death warrant since Mr. Kyeremanten is aiming for the ultimate and thus would not want to be subsumed under Nana Addo. "I am of the opinion that Alan should not become the running mate of Nana because the two are of totally different complete breeds. The way I know Alan and Nana, they are too different characteristics and I am not sure whether Alan can do it, so I will not support the combination of the two. I think it will not be very good for the health of the party. "It is not that Alan cannot do the job or Nana is such a difficult person to work with, but I believe from what I know of the two, they will not be able to work together very comfortably. Its better you don’t pair them. Their chemistry will not pair and they will not gel. I even think that the way Alan talks and parades himself, he can’t be a Deputy to Nana," he said. Mr. Esseku also said he would not fault Nana Addo if he opts for Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia as his running mate once again. He however says Nana Addo need not necessarily look up to the north for a running mate. "In fact, it’s just a coincident that Adu Boahene in 1992 chose a running mate from the North and Kufuor also did same. And if Nana should also choose from the north, I don’t have a problem with that but I don’t think it should be a principle that Nana is from the south so the Vice should come from the North. "You will come from the North if you have the qualification and the chemistry that will make it easy for you to work with Nana, that’s what I am looking for but not simply because we must consider north and south in choosing Presidential; candidate and vice. "Religion and ethnicity should not be the basis for selecting presidential candidates and deputy. I don’t know who Nana wants to choose but I have seen Bawumia around and if he chooses him or any other person, I have no problem with it because I think they have worked together for some time and also Dr. Bawumia is a good material'' he added.
