Mr Kofi Asomaning, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), has said it does not fall within the remit of the Commission to enforce laws on electoral offences.
People aggrieved by acts of election malpractices should therefore take their case to the police or the courts for redress.
Mr Asomaning was briefing members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on the role and functions of the EC in Kumasi ahead of the district level elections.
He was responding to concerns raised by some of them about what they saw as violation of the election law by some aspiring assembly members.
They claimed some of these aspirants had already printed campaign posters and posted these at public places.
He urged the assembly members to encourage the electorate to check and make sure that their names were on the electoral roll.
Nominations for the assembly elections would be opened from August 28-29.
That of the Unit Committees is scheduled for August 25-26.
Mr Asomaning spoke of the possibility of re-demarcating some of the electoral areas.
He urged the aspiring candidates to ensure clean and decent campaign to avoid unnecessary tension.
